Work Stories – Webisode 1

Finally, I got this compressed, and with a little re-editing (losing one part because horrible sound) I got a relatively good cut. I might still change it if I get ahold of a MAC during vacation. If not maybe later, oh well.

So here is Webisode 1 of “Work Stories”, I say webisode because I’d like to parlay this into a series. Let me know what you think of that idea and this piece. And thanks to all that helped!*

P.S:  I’m gonna put a self imposed rating on this one as PG-13 as there is one instance of a drug related story.  If there are youngin’s present, parents please use your own judgement.  You could view it first and then see if it is harmless in your opinion or not.  But by no means does this video support drug use, nor does it make it glamorous; it does however exploit the fact that doing drugs can have weird and often humorous outcomes!

All Nighter

It’s 4:11 AM, do you know where your children are?

Well, I don’t have children, so I don’t care. All I know is that I’m in Rm. B43 at Mitchell Hall, and I’m pullin’ another all-nighter.

All is quiet. All is calm. I’m listening to Spoon. They rock.

The 12 Cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic

I had mentioned earlier this sememser to my fellow classmates that I had unearthed a wonderful mash-up type CD entitled “Cello Submarine”.  This is the 12 Cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic playing new arrangements of Beatles songs.  Given the fact that I highly admire the cello and the Beatles, this album has it all, it is a tasty treat for  the ears.  My favorite tracks would have to include: Let It Be, Something, Michelle, and Norwegian Wood.  Have a listen for yourself and see what you think.  Let me know if you agree that this CD is awesome.   :)

And speaking of the Beatles, many of you may (or may not) be aware that there’s a new Beatles album out: Love.   Stemming from the days when George Harrison was still with us, comes the next evolution of the collaboration of The Beatles (with the approval of remaining alums Paul and Ringo, and of George’s widow and also Yoko Ono) and Cirque de Soleil.  I highly recommend this CD!!  It’s georgeous in it’s design.  Favorite tracks include: Something, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Lady Madonna.

Work Stories: A Proposal

A project that I’ve had in mind for quite some time may find an outlet within the confines of this project. Ever since my introduction into the workforce I have come across interesting anecdotes which I have either listened to or retold. These stories usually range from humorous to bizarre. Sometimes there may be just simple gossip, but digging through the many tales people have told me, I have found more than a handful that have been repeated time and again. However, I cannot always do justice to the way the story was originally told to me. Thus my idea began to form a long time ago, and only recently have I given some sort of name to to help describe it: Work Stories.

The title, though seemingly too simple, is the most accurate description I can come up with. My proposal is to interview a hand selected story tellers, those whose story is above and beyond the average daily work experience. I want to record these stories for all to enjoy, and let the people who experienced the tale first hand to describe it to the audience.

I think that the internet is a great place to distribute this kind of video. The stories I have so far found are mainly humorous; although some are just odd, they overall lean toward the comedic. I hope if this is successful to continue to record the work stories, as I ultimately have an endless supply of stories to choose from. Essentially, everyone has a story, and more often than not, they have more than one.

Being that my time is limited and my resources low, I would at first keep things simple. Choose a few friends with the best stories and interview them. With any luck I can get the shooting done in one or two days. I had another idea of creating a Twilight Zone/Unsolved Mysteries type webisode to dissect one of the more unusual of the stories, however, that would require more people and more time. Time is a resource I am in need of in great quantities these days, so I should not waste it. Maybe I’ll try that idea at a later time.

I think the style of the video should be that of a documentary, however, it doesn’t have to be very dry in style. One idea I have is to weave a few stories together, so that they unfold simultaneously and the conclusions given out at the end together. That may just get confusing, so I’m not sure exactly how to piece it together quite yet. The quality doesn’t have to be high, but not very low either. The tiny screen a computer allows for videos isn’t the greatest, so I will just try to make it acceptable. Overall, if this catches on, I’d like to create a series. A series would allow for expansion. For now starting small with a focused idea could draw people in by not being overly complicated.

So, yeah, this week was terribly busy, which means I’ve got no footage yet. However, it did give me time to get into contact with people, so at least I know I have subjects to film. For the Person video, I talked with Mark… still no definitive “hook”, I gues I really don’t like that term… it seems to cheapen what I was after with Mark’s video. I wanted to talk with him about his personal life and feelings about the world and his place in it (that’s what I’ve narrowed down to at least for now). See, Mark is the second youngest of his family. His younger brother and himself all have much older siblings. Maybe Mark and his family are the hook… his father died when he was young (which is one thing Mark and my sister identified with eachother when they first met, be fore they started dating as our dad had recently passed away). So Mark has his mom and his step dad now. But I’ve noticed, in comparison to what I know about his older siblings, Mark is struggling to find direction in his life… he has deep struggles with religion (his family is very devout Christians, his brother’s even a minister) and his place in the world. This is what I’ve been thinking about for Mark’s video… something introspective, the class clown opes up kinda viewpoint.

Secondly, the Place video, just need to talk with the owner and Steve to set up some times to film. The idea video, I have a list of people I’m going to talk to: My friend Toni (she recently had to sell her father’s home since he passed away last year), my friend Malina who lives in Las Vegas (I’ll do phone interview), and my friend Becki, who has moved a number of times in the last year due to new jobs and a new fiance, and she’s moving again… possibly to her childhood home.

That’s where I’m at.

Ok, with watching The Cube in class on Friday and finally getting to see MirrorMask tonight (uber awesome btw!) my mind was burning to search a few Sesame Street gems that I love. Now this first one no one else I mention it to seems to remember it. It’s a little cartoon from the early 80’s with the catchiest of songs ever… hey, I mean I remembered it for about 20 years now so it sticks with you. It’s funny though, if you think about what cartoon people do remember the most from this time in Sesame Street history was the Pinball one (“1,2,3,4,5-6,7,8,9,10…11,12!”). That one was all flashy and slick. This one’s a bit more mellow in comparison.

This next one I think some of you may remember, but it rocks anyway so I’m putting it on here.

I went searching high and low but no one seems to have the cartoon of the little girl on the way to the store. Does anyone recall that one? It’s the one where she has to remember what her mama told her to get: “a gallon of milk, a loaf of bread, and a stick of butter”. Apparantly it was on YouTube but it was removed, no one else seems to have it. Hopefully, it’ll pop up again one of these days. Now I don’t know what category these may fit into (ephemeral maybe?) but I just wanted to post them to show you all.

Now you better all sit down for this one… I mean it’s earth shattering news, but someone purposely lied on the internet! I mean what is this world coming to?? Now whodda thunk it? Yes, everybody, “lonelygirl15″ is a FRAUD! **gasp!** What is even more interesting to me though is the fact that this was the main headline on yahoo news today– I mean isn’t there a war going on somewhere? Ya know in that one big desert where the oil is… isn’t that more important?

This may be interesting only in the way its inane frivolty hijacked the media’s attention… but then again that happens all the time. So…. I guess there’s nothing noteworthy about this Vlog afterall. Nothing at all, just business as usual. Ha!

Anyway, check out the yahoo story, and then check out the VLog in question. And when you’ve sufficiently got your fill, PLEASE, for god’s sake, return to your regularily scheduled life. Unlike the people who “felt betrayed”. And you can just go search YouTube for “lonleygirl15″ and “fake” and see for yourself the immense amounts of VLogs people have created in response! If anything it’s an interesting study of reality on the internet and how people create connections to people they’ve never even met (and probably never even communicated with, only watched her Vlogs).

Curiouser and Curiouser
Well, I didn’t get around to updating this post as soon as I wanted, however, I’m doing so now! :) ANYWHO….

My basic style for writing can flucuate from laidback and informal to somewhere near professional sounding. It just depends and what I’m writing about and who I’m writing for. But being that this is a Blog, the opportunity to include other things to help elaborate myself is highly available.

The technology of the internet affords me to include “easter eggs”, or the little links I embed into my posts to give out further info to you folks that may read this little diatribe. I like to elaborate in this way because it seems avoid bogging down the rest of the writing with over doing it. Easter eggs are nice because you can look at them on your own schedule. Even though they may be relevant to what my topic is on any particular post, they don’t necessarily need to be written about.

I guess that’s all I wanted to let you know about, so when you read my blog, just know that when a word or phrase is set-up as a link, it means I took the time to do so for your benefit.  Sometimes I even like to include a picture or two to give the page a little color, something to brighten up the place, ya know?  And if you have the time you should follow the rabbit down the bunny hole, you might just find something interesting. ;-)

More to come for this post, but I wanted it first up. Here I will describe my style (which may or may not deviate from this initial idea) so any readers of this blog will understand the workings of my brain as I dissect and analyze the various subjects laid before us in Digital Distribution.

I am still constructing the verbage to relay this message, but it will come to me very soon. I already have an idea I want to work from dealing with the pagan symbols of fertility. To find out what I mean by this in relation to my blog writing style, check back again for the update! Hopefully, this statement will be intruiging for some.
